Architectural Digest 6 Best Rooms with Designer Rugs in August 2017

Posted by Abid Ilahi on Jul 8, 2017 9:20:58 PM

The six best rooms with designer rugs in the August 2017 Architectural Digest are all in an 18th-century Paris apartment just renovated by Pierre Sauvage with the help of designer Franz Potisek. The style is a colorful mix of traditional, contemporary and Boho-Chic sensibilities and proves that traditional 18th-century architecture and contemporary styling are a great combination. The apartment has a grand classical structure with tall windows and original paneling that took a year of painstaking restoration. Painted in brilliant colors and paired with boldly patterned designer rugs reminiscent of 1970's David Hicks, the result is both elegant and daring.

1. Blue, White and Red

In the Franz Potisek designed dining room a blue and white rug complements the original 18th-century boiserie painted blue. White and gold Louis XVI chairs contrast with the reddish wood tones of a 19th-century English Mahogany table. A red floral arrangement adds pop.

2. White, Brown and Red

The sitting room's Louis XVI oak-and-mirror-paneled walls create a striking contrast with the white cut and loop geometric rug, white Jansen sofas and a Hervé Van der Straeten bronze-and-rock crystal chandelier. Red velvet cushions add pop.

3. White, Purple and Red

In the living room a white and gray cane pattern geometric rug anchors a purple velvet sofa, white Louis XV bergère and a Potisek-designed red lacquer cocktail table.

4. Blue, Brown and Green

A family portrait hangs in the wood paneled library where a cobalt blue velvet upholstered vintage sofa and 1970's chair pop against a leopard print rug. Green velvet cushions and drapes add layering.

5. Red and Cobalt Blue

In the dressing room a red oriental carpet pops against cobalt blue lacquered walls. A 19th-century brass-and-glass pendant hangs above a circular opening to the master bath below.

6. Cobalt Blue and Red

The cobalt blue color palette is carried through to the master where a blue and red oriental rug adds energy.
