The April 2015 House Beautiful's 5 best rooms with decorative rugs include Cathy Kincaid's bright, light-filled sunroom with gorgeous treillage inspired by Bunny Mellon's New York townhouse and her orientalist fantasy family room with Robert Kime floral fabrics. Also among the top five are Gregory Shano's sunny living room and sea green dining room in his newly renovated Hamptons house.
I have called these 11 chic bedrooms masculine because many, but not all, were designed for men. It is interesting to note that many of the rooms are anchored by a brown and white geometric rug. The next most popular color combination is blue or navy with white.
J. Randall Powers,
The February 2015 Architectural Digest's 7 best rooms with decorative rugs show how to create stunnng interiors by mixing modern art, traditional and contemporary furniture and sculptural shapes and volumes and then pulling everything together into a harmonious composition with custom rugs in geometric and abstract patterns made from luxurious materials such as silk and handspun wool. Steven Gambrel excels at interpreting traditional geometric patterns in large silk custom rugs that almost cover the entire floor. In contrast Rafael de Cárdenas uses contemporary silk rugs to define seating areas or the area around the bed while showing expanses of beautiful wood floor. This shows that rules are meant to broken as long as you know why you are breaking them.

I would like to explain why I am writing about the January 2015 Architectural Digest’s 10 best interiors with decorative rugs In the middle of March instead of three months ago. The January issue was truly outstanding I regret I was unable to publish it earlier as I have been in the midst of a major redesign of the Asmara website. To do full justice, I have been expanded the list to the 10 best from the usual 5.
