Great First Impression: Enrich Entry Halls with Decorative Rugs

Posted by Kate Watson on Dec 23, 2013 8:50:00 PM

We all know that first impression count the most, yet too often people give cursory attention to the entry and hallways of their homes. The bottom line is that decorating your entrance and hallway really does matter. Many people throw up a painting or two, slap down a decorative rug and call it a day, forgetting about the entrance as soon as the work is done. What's unfortunate about this approach is that they miss the unique opportunity to create a favorable first impression of their home and even of themselves.  Guests also feel more important if they enter a home from an impressive and welcoming entrance.  A half-heartedly decorated entrance is at best boring and forgettable and at worst, it can leave the wrong impression about you and your home.

Fashion designer Michael Kors once said “Scale changes something ordinary and mundane into something special.” This is true for interior design as much as it does to fashion. Posted by Kate Watson on Oct 15, 2013 10:04:00 PM

Geometric patterns add energy and chic style to an interior. Take a look at the amazing presence created by the geometric tiled floor and vibrantly colorful geometric patterns on the ceiling of the famous “Peacock room” in Tuscany’s Castello di Sammezzano. So stunning, you’d never imagine it was abandoned, but it is. Choosing the right pattern and palette for a geometric rug can be difficult if you try to find a rug after a room has already been decorated. This is why many interior designers start the room by first choosing a rug. Some designer's such as Thomas C. Achille even go so far as to advise, “Let the rug be the star.” Today we’re going to put this approach into action and show how three designers have created chic, personal spaces with geometric rugs.

Posted by Abid Ilahi on Aug 24, 2012 11:03:00 PM

Updated August, 2016 with 6 new photosI am always surprised when a design idea suddenly appears in my thoughts, seemingly out of nowhere.
