Have you ever wanted to design a glamorous living room in the bright colors of spring flowers that are coming out all around us now? With colorful new flowers making their appearance  all through spring and summer, I wanted our living room to be in sync with the wonderful happy colors of this time of the year. I started with a bright green rug that has small touches of yellow. The colors of this green rug remind me of delicate green leaves that have recently sprouted across New England. These greens are a great compliment for all the brightly colored flowers that come out in spring and summer. I created the color palette for the room with fuchsia, orange, yellow and purple because these are the colors we will be seeing through spring and summer. I found a stunning mid century modern sofa in a brilliant shade of fuchsia. The only way to go from there was to top it all off with bold Marimekko pillows in orange, yellow and purple. This makes a fun and glamorous living room. After completing this, I wondered what would I do in the fall. Would it be possible to easily change the look of the living room to be in sync with the colors we see in fall? I wanted make the seasonal change without having to change the green rug and the furniture. After some experimentation, the makeover turned out to be surprisingly easy to do. Read More

The last big storm of this winter has wrapped my house in a thick blanket of snow and in the soft silence I have begun dreaming of nestling with a good book in a warm library decorated in cheery spring colors instead of dark wintry tones. My inspiration is a happy needlepoint rug with fresh green, sea blue, yellow, coral and red. I have always wanted an antique English mahogany breakfront book case, but to give the room a more interesting look I paired it with a mid-century modern French settee and Art Deco pieces.
