Italian born Alessandra Branca has captivated the design world with her exuberant and livable Continental chic. According to the highly respected Franklin Report, Alessandra Branca is:
“.. on most everyone’s top ten design list…was selected for House Beautiful Magazine’s Top Designers list for 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and is on Elle Decor’s A-List in 2011.
…”Clients range from the most established to the young, who may begin with just a few rooms, but usually have high-quality expectations, classical views and substantial budgets. Very often these clients continue to use Branca, expanding year-by-year to other rooms and, finally, to multiple locations and then the yacht. European shopping trips often factor into the picture”.
In a recent interview, the Decorati Blog asked Alessandra:
“What do you feel are lasting, timeless palettes that still feel fresh and up-to-the-minute?
Steel grey and Pompeian red. It was good enough for the Romans and still makes many today happy. Another palette I have used recently is dove grey and hot pink. Also a wonderful palette — this one from 18th century France — you can never go wrong with blue and white whether it is 18th Century porcelains or a wonderful Yves Klein coffee table in a chalk white room. The combination is always fresh and memorable.
“Is there a classic—a staple—that is always a part of your design…sort of a signature? What is it and what enables it to work in any environment?
Stripes!!!!! You can have them in a classical interior or a very modern one and they will help add zip as well as visual order to a space. The graphic quality they have always enhances anything organic or too plain. It is also a great way to marry colors into a space”.
The grey wool oriental rug has a fine cut and loop stripe as do the yellow armchair fabric and the sofa pillows. With Pompeian red, pink, yellow, grey and black create Branca has created a room that remminds of ancient Rome, English Regency and American comfort all at the same time.
On a textured stried grey-beige contemporary rug Alessandra Branca has placed white upholstered sofa and chairs and added zip with the Pompeian red striped pillows, red feathery art and touches of bright blue framed by pale yellow walls.
A red, blue, tan striped wool rug covers the stairs and an antique geometric wool rug in brick, blue and cream defines a seating area by the staircase.
