The Holidays are a wonderful time for celebrating with friends and family– and a creatively decorated room can greatly enhance the experience and create wonderful memories. But the Holiday Season is such a busy time of year, it is a great help to know of some easy and tasteful ways to dress up your interiors, without having to run around on December 27th removing tons of tinsel. Today we will bring you three ways of elevating your holiday decor by building on the objects that are already in the room such as a beautiful Aubusson rug, a lovely fabric or a stunning chandelier.
Chose Accents that Maximize Existing Room Themes
No need to have a blue Christmas if you don’t like all that red and green – instead create a holiday theme incorporating the gold, blue and white from the neoclassical Aubusson rug. The table arrangement looks even more stunning because it resonates with the shape of the crystal chandelier. Image courtesy Southern Accents.
While red and green may be the traditional colors of the season, don’t be forced into thinking you’ve got to bathe your rooms in those shades to bring the holiday spirit into the home. From the Aubusson rug to the rafters, this room is rich with blue and white tulle, Chinoiserie accents and an elegant neoclassical style. However, the space still boasts a bevy of festive cheer thanks to careful thought by the designer. By laying the table with china suited to the interior, adding seasonal accents and incorporating a dash of fresh greenery brings all the winter party vibes into the room without overwhelming the space in cliché swags. Add a few well-placed bowls of golden baubles and a handful of pine cones on a sprig of cedar here and there, and your room is refreshed for whatever celebration awaits.
Create a Memorable Canopy Inspired by Leafy Aubusson Rug

The true beauty of the winter season come from the choice of evergreens. Incorporating cedar boughs, holly branches, and other local evergreens into your rooms also has another benefit- it allows you to refresh the space for the season without imposing a specific denominational theme. This is increasingly popular with those hosting large gatherings where extended family and friends with varying backgrounds come together in the spirit of celebration rather than for any particular calendar event. Here, Scot Meacham Wood has taken a unique approach to the garland that is traditionally draped over the mantle. He’s suspended it from a central point on the ceiling and trailed the garland out to the corners of the room where it resonates with the leaf pattern of the Aubusson rug. This creates an instant feeling of intimacy in a large space and also a feeling of being connected to the outdoors, which is a big plus in a smaller space, making it feel more open.

Create a Glamorous Table Setting with Golds and Reds
Gilded china, crystal stemware, tomato red table linens, and pomegranate red floral arrangements give a warm, celebratory atmosphere that can be further elevated if they resonate with the colors of a gold Aubusson rug like the two pictured below. Image via Pinterest Dining Room Rugs.
One of a holiday host’s most daunting challenges is creating a table setting that engages all the senses. The example here is a great starting point for any dining room – seasonal greenery on the table, the magical flicker of candlelight, and a deep color for the linens gives basic stemware an elegant feel. Add to these elements any gold-rimmed place setting and you’ll create an intimate feeling – even at a table of twenty. The mood evoked will be one of refined indulgence, cozied together with the warmth of the season.
