The September 2017 House Beautiful is a celebration of lively color and youthful energy in traditional design and includes designer Sara Gilbane’s playful design for her parent’s home in Palm Beach and designer Mary McGee’s stunning use of color in a Georgian-style house in Wellesley, Massachusetts. As always we zero in is on how designer rugs were used to pull the room into a stylish whole. Here are my picks for the 5 best interiors in the September 2017 House Beautiful.
1. Gold, Yellow, Green and Coral
In the dining room of her parents Palm Beach home, designer Sara Gilbane chose an abaca rug to add warm color and texture to complement the pink and white tented ceiling and grass cloth covered walls had hand-painted in a vintage Everglades theme. A flamingo colored Murano glass chandelier completes the effect.
2. Blue and White
In the family room of the Palm Beach house a blue and white striped flatweave rug pulls together an antique rope sofa and a roll-arm sofa covered in blue and white ikat prints.
3. Blue, White, Yellow and Pink
In the living room of the Sara Gilbane designed Palm Beach house a blue and white oriental rug with an intricate geometric pattern adds refinement and complements the yellow and blue abstract paintings, melon colored raffia walls and pale blue and pink upholstery.
4. Green, Gold and Blue
Designer Mary McGee transforms the living room of a Georgian-style house in Wellesley, Massachusetts with raspberry colored drapes and stools in a black and white stripe by Christian Lacroix all pulled together by a natural fiber rug
5. Blue, White and Gold
In the Mary McGee designed dining room a white wool Greek-key rug adds texture and contrast to butter yellow walls, white Neoclassical-style chairs upholstered in pink silk and linen and yellow and white silk damask drapes.
