With the notable exception of Traditional Home Magazine, the best national decorating magazines seem to have abandoned the much loved tradition of showing tastefully decorated holiday interiors in their December issues.
Gone are the days when Southern Accents and Veranda Magazine used to vie with each other to photograph and publish the most alluring holiday interiors. Even though the beautiful cover of the November-December 2012 Veranda looks promising, the inside pages fail to deliver.
Fortunately for those of us who enjoy the changing seasons how to reflect the changing seasons and holidays in our interiors, we can now go to Pinterest and browse for free the thousands of images on Pinterest “pinned” by hundreds of passionate “pinners” which include interior designers, fashion stylists and just plain design aesthetes. Many of the pinners devote countless hours of their time and amazing talent to search out and assemble images from magazines of all types from all parts of the world. It is a rich resource that all of us can enjoy for free- provided you have the time to sift through.
One of the advantages of Pinterest over traditional design magazines is that it allows you to search out your favorite interiors from the past and the present and save them on your own Pinterest Board. I did just that and now you can see my favorites on Pinterest’s Holiday Decorating with Rugs.
