Home libraries do not have to be dark spaces, laden with heavy furnishings. I like libraries that are filled with light and color and feel cheerful, inviting and comfortable.
With this in mind I started with a cheerful needlepoint rug with blue, yellow and red in a nature inspired pattern of branches. I chose pillows with oversized modernist flowers to play on the theme of nature and vibrant colors.
I selected tapered and tailored furniture because it makes the room feel vibrant and comfortable for reading. I also like the interplay between the curves of the recamier sofa and the straight lines of the chair and book case.
Rather than have the room weighed down by yards upon yards of unnecessary fabric, I selected two chairs and a recamier sofa that are raised off the floor so that the luxurious pattern of the whimsical needlepoint rug can truly shine.
