Before you start searching for the perfect decorative rug for the bedroom, take a few minutes to reflect on the direction you want to go in designing the bedroom: Are you designing a romantic getaway, or a quiet refuge in the midst of a city? Would you like to have space for family gatherings, or is it an intimate couple’s realm? Would you like to relax on a daybed by the garden window, or is a comfortable space for quiet work more important? The seven bedrooms show several different design directions. Once you have a clear picture of the look and feel you are aiming for, it will become easier to find the perfect decorative rug, fabrics, furniture and materials.
Romantic Mountain Getaway
Weathered wood cathedral ceiling and window frames contrast with a luxurious fur bed throw in a romantic hideaway in Big Sky, Montana designed by Markham Roberts, Inc. A grey rug with a small scale textured geometric pattern contrasts with a smooth white writing desk and purple pillows create pop against the grey sofa.
An Urbane Refuge
AD100 interior designer Seven Gambrel created an elegant refuge in the city with dark grey walls, pale pinkish-grey silk canopy, dark polished wood Neoclassical furniture and a silky textured geometric rug to create a tasteful refuge in a busy metropolis.
Barbara Gisel Design chose gold fabric wall covering, white cathedral ceiling, pale lavender upholstery and a gold, cream and taupe Valencia Oriental rug to create an elegant master bedroom with a seating area conducive to intimate family gatherings.
Cool lavender brushed upholstery creates a cool contrast with the warm gold damask texture of the Valencia rug in the seating area of the Barbara Gisel designed master bedroom.
Washington DC designer Susan Nelson created a cheerful atmosphere in a master bedroom with gold and white silk damask bed covering and a red and white Bergamo needlepoint rug.
Invigorating Bedroom Sitting Area

A Historian’s Retreat:

Book Lover’s Romantic Sanctuary:
A 19th century English wrought iron and brass canopy bed, stacks of white pillows, cream upholstered chairs, white walls, sloping ceiling and a small library are anchored by a white and cream textured damask rug creating a light filled romantic sanctuary.
An Aesthete’s Refuge:
