If formal just isn’t your thing
Yesterday’s post featured a formal living room based on a blue and cream Anatolia oushak rug. But, if formal just isn’t your thing, or the room you’re furnishing is a living room, family room and television room, then this more informal and relaxed scheme may appeal to you.
The durability of these 100% wool Oushak rugs will stand-up to years and years of use and these rugs are easy to clean thanks to the natural lanolin found in the handspun wool.
To create an informal look with these rugs I would chose a casual but durable fabric like linen on a scatter back sofa like this one from the John Rielly collection on Shopad.net in khaki or tan. Soft and elegant but easy and relaxed, linen just says exhale to me. Avoid pairs and collect an eclectic grouping of sofas and chairs.
The soft quiet colors in this rug allow outside views and natural beauty to be fully appreciated.
I would paint the room a color similar to the upholstery, like Mouse’s Back from Farrow & Ball. This dark color will allow the rug to pop and highlight the light painted furniture. Plus, bringing the wall color into the room always creates instant cohesion. This rug would look good on any color hardwood floors but if you’re starting from scratch, a gray driftwood or white washed look would reinforce the casual vibe. Painted furniture and lighter wood tones keep the look easy and sheer drapery panels feel relaxed. The soft quiet colors in this rug allow views and natural beauty to be appreciated to the fullest extent and suggests a subtle luxury noticed by those who appreciate quality.
