Designer Nick Olsen uses luminous color to enliven an apartment with floor to ceiling windows in a 10 year old upper east-side limestone building designed by architect Peter Marino. In the living room a gold custom oriental rug brings out the beauty of gold and silver metallic wallcovering, black spoon back chairs covered in a gray and white chevron pattern, purple velvet sofas and a lavender-blue silk 18th-century canapé. The artwork is by Willem de Kooning.
5. Yellow, Purple, Black and Green
In the Nick Olsen designed dining room custom chairs copied from a Maison Jansen original belonging to the clients are covered in a yellow leather that pops against a gold custom oriental rug. A neoclassical screen covered in a purple-gray hand painted Fromental paper adds contrast.

A blue and white custom Portuguese style needlepoint rug adds color and texture to the living room of a 1917 shingled white colonial on Long Island’s North Shore renewed by designer Frank de Biasi.

In the living room of designer Jan Showers’ Dallas townhouse, a white and silver cowhide rug complements a gold velvet covered sofa, yellow and white striped armchairs, Jan Showers designed cocktail table and chandelier and walls painted in Benjamin Moore’s Wickham Gray.
