Ever since Michael Del Piero founded Michael Del Piero Good Design in Chicago in 2007 she has received worldwide acclaim for her distinctive style that juxtaposes the ancient with modern and rough with luxurious. She has been featured in The New York Times, House Beautiful, Traditional Home, The Chicago Tribune, over 350 blogs, and was one of the first vendors on 1stdibs. Join me as Michael shares her insights on why she buys antiques and rugs online and much more.
Why Do You Prefer to Buy Antiques and Rugs Online?
Access to the world’s most incredible sources at your fingertips is a benefit to every client. It makes hunting for the perfect item much easier. While I love to travel and purchase things for my boutique and clients, not everyone is able to do so. The internet makes the world more accessible. To tell you the truth, most designers especially if you are under 35 years old are doing a majority of their sourcing online.
How Can You Tell If an Online Dealer is Reputable?
Using a reputable online dealer or supplier is key to a successful end result. Having a company who has been in business with an online presence for at least 5 years is helpful. With less time logged in as a supplier or distributor, having reviews is helpful as is a strong return policy which doesn’t have a restocking fee.

Why Has Buying Luxury Home Decor Online Become So Popular?

What Are Your 10 Favorite Products on 1stdibs this Spring?
We tend not to shop seasonally, as our show room products and client interior work is happening year round. However, if I had to make a seasonal selection, I would probably make selections for a modern beach cottage in New York. Spring is when we complete designs for summer homes. I pinned these from 1stdibs onto one of my Pinterest boards. Hopefully you see something that inspires you!
